Met Gala Recap: Leading Latinas Who Slayed

Best Dressed at the Met Gala

Another year, another May, another Met Gala. "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" was one of the more controversial themes in the Met Gala’s 70 year history. And just like we all hoped - it didn’t disappoint. Mixing a papal tiara bejeweled with 18,000 diamonds, with Rihanna dressed as the female pope the Vatican never knew they needed... It’s safe to say the Upper East Side was as heavenly as ever this past Monday.

Leading Latina’s who contributed to this heavenly event? Easy.

1. Cardi B

How could we not give thanks to Cardi B for coming through dripping in pearls? Sparing no detail for her Met Gala debut, her custom Moschino gown alone weighed 30 pounds. Not to mention the beaded gloves, headpiece, and satin overskirt with an epic train to complete the look. The mom to be also flaunted her baby bump - which was perhaps the best accessory the Met steps saw all night.

2. Jennifer Lopez

Known for her heavenly body - our very own Jenny from the block took this year's theme to new heights. J.Lo arrived with A.Rod in a jaw-dropping masterpiece from Balmain, right on theme thanks to the jeweled crucifix. Of course the work of art hugged her curves in all the right places - regardless of a heavenly theme J.Lo is still J.Lo. Will she need to repent for that high slit? Not a chance. What’s most lovable about her look is the moment she took it off - designer Olivier Rousteing put his Met Gala 2018 gowns up for auction. 100% of the proceeds going to Global Fund, aiming to eliminate the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies. Praise be.

3. Eiza Gonzalez

Last but certainly not least - we have to show some love to everyone’s Oscars crush Eiza Gonzalez. Her nun inspired look by Prabal Gurung was equal parts sexy and pure - a hard balance for anyone to meet. And if you’re as smokin’ hot as Eiza, the pure part is slightly more difficult to pull off. Complete with intricate jewels and even jeweled teardrops, Eiza radiated the carpet. This was her first time gracing the Met Gala steps, and we certainly hope it won’t be her last.

Honorable Mentions: Selena Gomez & Salma Hayek

Less on theme, we can’t forget Selena Gomez. A bit similar to her 2017 look - nonetheless she never has a bad fashion moment. But I’ll be honest: she could wear a plastic bag on any carpet and I would still sing her praises. (Confession - she’s my celeb crush!) And another leading Latina was and always will be Salma Hayek.

That about sums up Latina’s I loved on this years Met Gala carpet. Crosses, jewels, heavenly bodies and lots of sass. Sounds like the theme was made for us.
